A lot of us have a passion for good food. We generally cannot resist the temptation of exotic and mouth-watering chows. There is really nothing wrong about giving in to our cravings, satisfying our taste buds and filling our tummies; but, do you know that our digestive system also needs our care and attention? We also need to cleanse our hard-working colons once in a while.
The colon is an essential part of our digestive system. It is responsible for holding wastes before they are excreted out of the body. If our colon does not function properly, it can adversely affect our body’s ability to dispose of wastes that are harmful and toxic to our health. It can lead to constipation as well as other medical conditions and complications; hence, doctors recommend undergoing occasional Colon Cleansing for good digestive health.
Colon cleansing or colon therapy is the process of washing away waste and other toxins in the colon and intestinal tract. It can be done by natural or artificial means. Natural colon cleansing involves changing one’s diet continuously or for a specific period of time and coupling it with regular exercise. Colon cleansing diets or detoxifying regimens usually consist of large quantities of fruits and vegetables as well as a variety of high-fiber cereals and brans. These are the food items that are known to sweep the colon of unwanted bacteria, contaminations and toxins. These diets also prescribe no intake of any dairy product, elimination of processed foods in every meal, less consumption of meat and caffeine and drinking of 8 to 10 glasses of water every day. Artificial colon cleansing, on the other hand, includes colon hydrotherapy or colonic irrigation which involves the use of colonic machines to flush away accumulated toxins in the colon. Taking oral colon cleansing supplements, dietary fiber, herbal teas and/or laxatives is somewhere in between both methods.
According to a number of medical experts, some of the benefits of colon cleansing include relief from constipation and diarrhea, relief from gas and bloating, faster metabolism, noticeable amount of weight loss (i.e sexier waistline), increased energy levels, better nutrient absorption, improved concentration, and clearer skin and healthier hair. Not all doctors agree to these claims but a growing number of Colon Cleansing advocates attest to have experienced the abovementioned health benefits.
Research has yet to concretely identify the exact benefits of Colon Cleansing to human health. It has been said that the colon cleanses itself naturally and that the bowel itself is not dirty thus Colon Cleansing is not anymore necessary. Despite these counter allegations and although there is no scientific evidence yet to prove its supposed benefits, Colon Cleansing has already become a widespread practice among wellness practitioners and health conscious individuals all over the world.
